Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale (BGCS) celebrated the official groundbreaking on Wednesday for the organization’s newest Club, located at Tonalea Middle School in south Scottsdale—a project made possible through a collaborative partnership with Scottsdale Unified School District.

The future Steve & Maria Sanghi – Tonalea Middle School Boys & Girls Club will transform an underused school facility into a vibrant new space for youth to learn, grow, and thrive when school is out. The $15 million campaign will expand access to life-shaping programs for more youth.

“Our Steve & Maria Sanghi Club is a landmark project. It reflects what’s possible when great minds and big hearts unite,” said Marianne Guenther, BGCS Board Member and Capital Campaign Committee Chair. “This stand-alone Club facility will be embedded in a school campus—an innovative partnership that has the potential to serve as a model across this state and beyond.”

Led by Chasse Building Team and designed by Orcutt | Winslow, construction will revitalize and transform more than 15,000 sq. ft. of existing school space into a state-of-the-art Boys & Girls Club and add a brand-new 12,260 sq. ft. gymnasium. The facility will include:

  • A makerspace studio, tech lab, art room, games room, and homework room
  • A dedicated teen center with a creator’s studio, media room, fitness center, lounge, kitchen, and homework space

Steve and Maria Sanghi, the new Club’s namesakes, joined the campaign early on, inspired by their belief in the power of BGCS to make a lasting, positive impact on youth and the broader community.

“We are honored to support Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale in creating a space that will have a lasting impact on the youth and families of south Scottsdale,” said Steve and Maria Sanghi. “We strongly believe in the Club’s mission to provide every child, no matter their circumstances, with the opportunity to achieve a great future. Through their commitment to innovative programs, we hope to inspire the next generation of problem solvers, engineers, and innovators by giving them the tools and confidence to succeed in today’s world.”

Steve Sanghi, CEO of Microchip Technology Inc., is especially passionate about bringing STEM and innovation-focused programming to the Tonalea community. The Sanghis are excited to introduce youth to BGCS’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) Makerspace and tech labs, where they will explore coding, robotics, and real-world problem-solving.

“We’re grateful for our partnership with Scottsdale Unified School District and proud to work with Chasse Building Team and Orcutt | Winslow, who are bringing this vision to life,” said Ivan Gilreath, BGCS President & CEO. “It’s truly inspiring to see so many people rally around our youth. When a community comes together with a shared belief in kids’ potential, we build more than a building—we build brighter futures.”

As the construction phase begins, BGCS looks ahead to welcoming youth into the Steve & Maria Sanghi Branch with after-school programming at the start of the new school year in August 2026.
