ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: ASHLEY YEE

What did you like most about the Club?
What I value most about the Club is the positive adult role models. From the time I was 6 years old, the staff never gave up on helping me feel comfortable and included. As a shy and stubborn kid, I wasn’t quick to open up, but they were patient, encouraging, and made the Club feel like home. I was never judged, only supported and encouraged to step outside my comfort zone. Having caring adult mentors during childhood makes a lasting difference, and I’m grateful the Club gave me that experience.

Which programs did you participate in?
I honestly participated in just about every program the Club offered. While I didn’t become a tennis star or a chess champion, I gained something even more valuable: the confidence to try new things and the social skills to connect with others. One of my favorite programs was SMART Girls. Alongside other girls my age, I learned about self-esteem, body image, and building healthy relationships. Those lessons have stayed with me long after I left the Club. My all-time favorite program was Keystone, the Club’s high school leadership and community service group. Keystone sparked my passion for giving back and taught me what it means to be a leader through its teen-led model. Leading service projects alongside my peers showed me the impact young people can have on their community, and it’s an experience that continues to influence who I am today

What have you been up to since graduating from high school?
After graduating from high school, I attended Arizona State University, where I truly challenged myself academically. I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Communication while working full-time at the Club as a Program Coordinator. During that time, I was promoted to Youth Development Supervisor and discovered my passion for creating meaningful experiences for young people. That passion inspired me to continue growing within the organization. After serving in several roles, I now have the privilege of serving as the Director of Programs for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale. In this role, I help develop the standards and guidelines for the programs offered across all of our Clubs. It’s been an incredible full-circle journey, going from a shy Club kid who was shaped by these programs to helping create those same opportunities for the next generation.
