Alumni Spotlight Q&A with Kenny Fitzgerald, Senior Marketing Associate at Greystar

The social and life skills I learned at the Club have helped me feel comfortable in every situation, no matter where I am or who I am communicating with.

In this issue of the Alumni Spotlight, we are featuring Kenny Fitzgerald. Kenny was a summer camper at the Thunderbirds Branch during 5th and 6th grade. He returned each summer for the next 3 years as a Leader in Training, a selective job readiness program for Club members encouraging them to become mentors and role models to younger members. The following year, he was hired as a junior staff member. Kenny attended the Vestar Branch when it opened in 2007. As a teen, he served as his teen center’s Keystone Vice President and was named the Vestar Branch Youth of the Year in 2010.

Today, Kenny is a marketing professional working here in Scottsdale.

What have you been up to since high school?

After graduating high school, I attended the WP Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. I have since earned my bachelor’s degree in business communication with a minor in real estate. I now work for Greystar, the largest property management company in the US, overseeing the day-to-day marketing for 30 plus assets in the Valley.

What impact did the Club have in helping you prepare for where you are now?

The Club helped prepare me for everything I have done since graduating high school. The social and life skills I learned at the Club have helped me feel comfortable in every situation, no matter where I am or who I am communicating with.

What would you say to someone who says Scottsdale kids don’t need Boys & Girls Clubs?

I would tell them how wrong that is. Club staff were there for me whenever I needed them. No matter the issues I was having in my life, I could talk about them with people who wanted to help me and cared for me. All kids benefit from having people who are dedicated to helping them succeed.

What inspired you to join the BGCS Alumni Club?

I joined the Alumni Club because I want to stay involved. It’s important to me that others understand why the club is needed and how much of an effect it truly had on me!
