The Executive Council Charities Teen Center at the Hartley & Ruth Barker Branch offers teen services to members in grades 7-12. Programs are uniquely developed based on the needs and interests of the members that come through our doors. Field trips, events and programs are created to benefit teenage youth and help them grow socially and academically, while still keeping a focus on fun.

Lehi Branch 2019-20 Youth of the Year

Zaria is a sophomore at Westwood High School and has been a member for 10 years. Zaria says that Club staff challenge her to always do her best and make positive choices. She loves helping others and gardening at the Club. She plans to attend NAU after high school and becoming a doctor.

MARY ELLEN & ROBERT MCKEE BRANCH 2019-2020 YOUTH OF THE YEAR

JP is a Freshman at Fountain Hills High School … our youngest candidate this year. He has been a Club member for 9 years. JP described his life before the Club as living in a bubble—fearful of trying new things. He plans to attend Boston University after graduating high school and going into sales … following in his dad’s footsteps.

Annay is a senior at Arcadia High School. She has been a Club member for 12 years. Annay attributes programs like tutoring and America Reads for helping her excel in school. She plans to attend Scottsdale Community College after graduation and to eventually join the FBI.

Peach Springs Club Alumni named Miss Indian Arizona State University, selected for Cultural Preservation & Leadership Development Program

Kyla Silas, the 2017 Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale Youth of the Year and 2016 – 2017 Peach Springs Branch Youth of the Year, was recently crowned Miss Indian Arizona State University 2018-2019.

Kyla was also selected from 400 Native American applicants to go to Washington D.C., and New York City for the prestigious Cultural Preservation and Leadership Development program this July. As part of the program, Kyla will visit Capitol Hill and meet Representatives and Native Staffers, meet Natives who live, work and study in Washington D.C., lobby and advocate on Native issues and participate in cultural arts workshops designed to promote resiliency and healing.

Kennise is a Sophomore at Mountain View High School and has been a Club member for 3 years. Kennise attributes the Club with helping her find her passions of art and writing. She’s got her sites on Brigham Young University in Hawaii to become a marine biologist after she graduates high school.

HILTON FAMILY TEEN CENTER

The Hilton Family Teen Center at the Thunderbirds Branch opened its doors in 2018 giving Thunderbirds teens their own space with a separate entrance. The brand new teen center offers teen services to members in grades 7-12. The new facility offers a games room, homework room, fitness center, teen lounge and kitchen. Teen programs are uniquely developed based on the needs and interests of the members that come through our doors. Field trips, events and programs are created to benefit teenage youth and help them grow socially and academically, while still keeping a focus on fun.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale 2019-2020 Youth of the Year

Carly is a senior at Pinnacle High School and has been a Club member since kindergarten (12 years). Carly has held leadership roles in Torch Club, Keystone, and as a Leader in Training. Carly is currently a valued part-time Club staff member. She plans to attend ASU after graduation and wants to be an event planner for a non-profit.

SAL COSENZA TEEN CENTER

The Sal Cosenza Teen Center at the Piper Branch is free to all Club members from 7th to 12th grade (with a current $25 annual membership). Teen Center staff offer homework support, formal and informal mentoring and guidance, and a variety of programs designed to help each member achieve academic success, learn good character and citizenship and develop healthy lifestyles.

Named after a longtime supporter of youth services in the Scottsdale area, the Virginia G. Piper Branch opened in Scottsdale Ranch in 1991. In December 2010 construction began to renovate the Piper Branch which now offers a full service Teen Center that opened in May 2011.

Kayla M. named 2019-20 Virginia G. Piper Branch Youth of the Year

Kayla is a senior at Desert Mountain High School. She has been a member for 12 years. She was the Torch Club and Keystone President as well as a Leader in Training before becoming a part-time staff member. After graduation, she plans to attend ASU and becoming a pediatric Registered Nurse Anesthesiologist.

Isabella is also a junior at Pinnacle High School. She has been a Club member for 8 years. Isabella says that programs like Torch Club, Leaders in Training and Keystone have helped her grow and prepare her for success. She plans to attend Grand Canyon University with a goal of becoming a pediatric surgeon.
